When you stand on the start line at GlommaDyppen, there’s a lot to take in: the river, the atmosphere, the nerves – and maybe the swimmers around you.
What you might not think as much about is everything happening around you out on the water.
But that’s where some of the most important work takes place.
GlommaDyppen is a collaboration between Fetsund Lenser, Sørumsand IF svømmegruppe and Fet Svømmeklubb – and together, we share a clear goal: to create a safe, professional and inclusive event in and around the Glomma river.
🌊 Safety is not by chance
GlommaDyppen is about mastery, nature and the joy of swimming – but it all depends on one thing:
safety in and on the water.
That’s why we have worked systematically over time to build a strong safety setup around the event.
During this year’s GlommaDyppen you will see:
- a rescue boat from Norges Livredningsselskap
- lifeguards on rescue boards
- our own safety boat
- a large number of kayaks along the course
Together, this creates a safe environment for all participants – regardless of distance or experience.
🏆 When the world’s best come to Fetsund and Sørumsand
As part of this work, we are taking things one step further.
At the end of April, we are hosting a dedicated training camp for some of Norway’s top lifesavers – led by none other than Fergus Eadie.
Fergus is one of the best in the world in competitive lifesaving, with international top results and world records in events where speed, technique and the ability to perform under pressure are crucial.
The fact that he is coming to “little us” is quite something in itself.
🤝 From elite level to safety for all
The camp brings together athletes who:
- are training towards international championships
- work as instructors, lifeguards and coaches
- contribute to safety in various events
This means the knowledge gained during the week doesn’t stop there – it is brought back into clubs, teaching and practical safety work.
And yes – it directly strengthens the safety setup at GlommaDyppen.
🚤 A strong team around the participants
One of the people you will meet on the water is Ine Kristin Aasum – one of our own lifeguards, who has also competed at a high international level.
During GlommaDyppen, she will be part of the safety team on a rescue board, together with several of her colleagues from the Norwegian Lifesaving Society.
This is not just visible presence – it is a system built on competence, experience and teamwork.
